SRC Records CEO Steve Rifkind recently partnered up with Miami-based
label Coalition Music Group to distribute rising reggaeton duo Zion and
Lennox.
According to the New York Daily News, an official announcement of the partnership
was made yesterday (October 18). The deal is meant to give SRC a wedge into
the reggaeton genre and Rifkind will be investing several million dollars in
the Coalition label. "We’re making a major investment in reggaeton,"
Rifkind told the Daily News. "[Reggaeton] is where hip hop was twenty years
ago." Coalition’s first release will be Cocorocos, a reggaeton compilation
CD.
Rifkind has a history of breaking underground rap acts like Mobb Deep,
Big Pun and The Wu-Tang Clan, among others, via his
now-defunct Loud Records. His current SRC roster includes Jae Millz,
Remy Ma, Akon and Pharoahe Monch, among others. SRC
is currently gearing up for the release of Akon’s and Monch’s sophomore albums
titled Konvicted and Desire, respectively. Konvicted will hit stores on December
12th, while a release date for Desire has yet to be determined.
