As 305djs previously reported , Keith Bender and Proof (born Deshaun Holton) got into a heated exchange at Detroit’s Triple C’s nightclub on Tuesday morning (April 11) leading to Proof pistol-whipping and shooting Bender. Proof was then gunned down by Bender’s cousin as he stood over Bender.
Proof was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John Conner Creek Village while Bender had been in critical condition at St. John Hospital and Medical Center since the shooting occurred
Bender’s cousin , Mario Etheridge, who was also a bouncer at the Triple C’s nightclub turned himself in a day after the shooting. He was charged with the two weapon related felonies and not Proof’s death.
Eheridge was arraigned this past Saturday and pleaded not guilty to two counts of possession of a concealed weapon and discharge of a firearm in a building. He is still in custody after being unable to post $70,000 for bail.
If convicted on both weapons violations charges, Etheridge could face up to nine years in prison. Prosecutors may also bring up additional charges.
A preliminary hearing is slated to take place April 26
Meanwhile, Proof’s viewing, which is open to the public, is being held today (April 18) at Detroit’s Fellowship Chapel from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. His funeral will take place on Wednesday (April 19) at the same venue.
In related news, a week after the shooting, authorities are looking to shut down the Triple C’s club. Prosecutors will reportedly kick off a crackdown on illegal after-hours drinking venues in Detroit. WayneCounty prosecutor Kym Worthy is set to file a lawsuit that could put the club out of business. The bar has been raided 18 times in the past decade
