The wedding ceremony between R&B superstar Usher and his former makeup artist Tameka Foster was abruptly called off this weekend.

The couple were reportedly going to wed at music mogul L.A Reid’s posh Hamptons mansion yesterday (July 28) but the ceremony was cancelled without explanation. Reid, who is the current chairman of Island/Def Jam Recordings, was responsible for signing Usher over 13 years ago to the defunct LaFace Records.

“It was announced today that the wedding ceremony for Usher Raymond and Tameka Foster was canceled,” The R&B superstar’s publicist said in a statement. “No additional information will be given regarding the circumstances of the cancellation, but we hope the privacy of this matter will be respected.”

Ironically, the R&B superstar recently sent an open letter to People magazine, defending his relationship with Foster.

“I am happy, excited, completely clear and independent on my direction, feelings, decisions and I am not being led.,” Usher wrote. “Some media and bloggers have been totally intrusive, they have misconstrued aspects of my personal life and, because of this, my ‘true’ fans are not sure about what is fact and what is fiction. There is a difference in stating an opinion versus drawing a conclusion that is incorrect.”

Usher and Foster are reportedly expecting their first child as a couple. Foster has three other children from a previous marriage.
