Hollywood titan Will Smith has announced that he is bringing back a popular 80’s movie that still resonates in our culture today. “Wax on, wax off!” We all remember saying this classic line over and over again and it looks like Smith will be giving the new generation a reason to start the trend again. The Karate Kid which was originally released in 1984, will be coming back with an updated version starring none other than Will’s son Jaden Smith, who starred alongside him in The Pursuit Of Happyness.
The producers of the movie say the movie will follow the basic premise of the first one, that is, of a shy young man who needs to build character and seeks out karate training as that push. Jaden will play the meek little boy who comes to be trained by a martial arts instructor. A main difference between the two films is that this one will be set in Beijing China while the original was set in L.A. The film will be distributed by Smith’s Overbrook Pictures’ and is said to focus more on the life lessons martial arts teaches you rather than just the fighting.
The Karate Kid will start production in China early next year and is scheduled for a summer release. I wonder if the kid’s name will still be Daniel-San? That would be 80’s sweet.
