On the morning of this years Super Bowl XLV rapper Lil Wayne made an appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” where he issued a friendly bet to rappers Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg. Wayne’s beloved Green Packers were up against rap’s new Cheech and Chong Wiz and Snoop’s Pittsburgh Steelers. The loser, as Wayne saw it, would have to trim their lengthy hair (all three rappers have a considerable amount of locks.)
In the end Wayne would prevail victorious after the Packers stunned the Steelers defeating them 31-25. However, in the eyes of Wiz an omission in Weezy’s interview presented an opportunity lost.
“I’ve seen the interview, I think it’s just the case of what a lot of older dudes do now…this is just me being real by saying this, they try to act like they don’t know who I am, or try to act like I don’t know what I’m doing,” Wiz told hiphopdx.com. “Because when [ESPN] did the interview with [Lil] Wayne, he was [saying] that he heard the song from the [Pittsburgh] Steelers – he heard it ’cause it was my song, but he didn’t say that. He had an opportunity to step up and say that, and he didn’t.”
Days before Wayne’s interview he released his version of Wiz’s Steelers anthem “Green and Yellow.” In his bars Wayne made it clear there was no beef between him and the prince of Pittsburgh.
“What up? I got Nosk in here with me” Lil Wayne kicks off the rap. “This ain’t a diss song, but uhmm… “
“Yeah, uh-huh, you know what it is I’m a cheesehead, y’all n—-s Cheez Whiz. Pittsburgh Steelers, thats nothing.’ That Super Bowl ring, thats stuntin’ ” Wayne rapped.
Wiz echoed Wayne’s statement that he has no issues with Weezy or the Young Money camp.
“I don’t feel any type of way about it, but I recognize it for what it is. It is what it is, but there’s never any problems between me, Wayne or any of his [Young Money] artists, because I’m just so positive. We both have movements and things that we need to tend to, and there would be no point in having tension with each other when we have people who look up to us, that we need to satisfy.”
