Still scratching your head and wondering what in the world made Lil Wayne announce Birdman and Slim’s signing of 90’s rock-rap hybrid band Limp Bizkit to Cash Money? We are too. In a recent interview with XXL, Baby explains how this awkwardly awkward sounding connection came about.

“Fred [Durst] reached out, bruh,” Birdman told XXL. “It was weird how it happened. He was like, ‘Stunna, what’s good?’” I was like, ‘What’s poppin, 5?’ [Fred said] ‘I wanna join the team.’ Whoa! For real? He didn’t have to say it twice. I was already a fan of him. When the opportunity came, we really was supposed to announce it at the Grammys. Wayne was going to announce it at the Grammys, but he did it when he felt like it.”

Good thing they didn’t announce it at the Grammys. We’re quite sure Weezy F. Baby wouldn’t have exactly received the reaction he was looking for. At any rate, Birdman has announced that Limp Bizkit’s first single under the Cash Money umbrella will be released this week and feature Lil Wayne. Baby also mentioned that Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst will likely head up the rock department of Cash Money and will be asked to acquire more talent for the label. Obviously, Durst is excited about his new situation.

“As both an artist and someone who has signed artists, I can say without a doubt that Cash Money is at the top of their game,” said Durst in a statement. “What attracted me to the label is not only their great taste and hustle, but their belief in their artists and the family atmosphere. Slim and Birdman allow their artists to be themselves and encourage creative output and continued development. I look forward to bringing my vision as a director as well as my voice to the label and to Limp Bizkit putting out some of our best music to date.” Best music to date? We’ll just have to be made believers.
