Eagle-eyed cops seized nearly 1.5 tons of pot at a truck stop on a Texas highway Thursday — worth nearly $7.5 million.
A Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed that part a parked tractor-trailer had an incomplete weld and decided to inspect it, according to NBC-DFW.
A K-9 unit alerted officers to the smell of marijuana, which led them to the big find: 2,500 pounds packed inside tubes in a giant industrial rock-raker, a highway construction tool manufactured in Mexico.
Firefighters had to cut through the metal containers to find the payload.
Investigators believe that the driver picked up the load in El Paso and had no idea that he was carrying the narcotic, Click2Houston.com reported.
The street value of marijuana can be up to $3,000 per pound, according to the National Drug Intelligence Center. The drug is predominantly imported through Mexican borders.
This was the biggest drug seizure by Parker County Sheriff’s Deputies, according to NBC.
