From a clothing line to a sports agency to a record company, Jay Z has done it all.
The one thing the rapper will not touch is reality television and as a result, he will not be the best man for Kanye West’s marriage with TV personality, model, and occasional actress, Kim Kardashian.
The controversial 36-year-old rapper offered his best friend and mentor best man at his wedding and was turned down because Jay Z, along with his wife Beyoncé, did not want themselves and their daughter Blue Ivy to be taped on camera as part of any reality TV show.
Who can blame him. I am sure its nothing personal on Jay’s part.
Beyoncé herself considers reality television below her standards. The singer avoids being associated with that at all costs, as reported by the Daily Star. A source, as written in the Daily Mail, calls reality tv “trashy TV” and states how Beyoncé does not want to “lower her standards for anyone, or any occasion.”
I can’t imagine who could replace Jay Z as best man for West’s wedding. The two rappers friendship is obviously a very close one and it is known to have started when West was a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s. The label eventually signed West as a rapper. However, rejection was considered and the deal was a reluctant one as the label, including Jay Z, believed he did not have the image of a rapper. The rest of the story is history.
The last time Kim tied the knot was in 2011 with NBA player Kris Humphries, which was short lived. The ceremony was turned into a media zoo for the reality TV show for E!, who airs Kardashian’s shows. The couple divorced 72 days later. At that time, several news outlets reported that this was all a publicity stunt to promote the Kardashian name.
After that, Kim K told Ryan Seacrest in an interview last month how she wanted a much more intimate and smaller wedding ceremony. However, this will not be the case. Source from the The Spec reports that executives from E! are “desperate” to air the wedding ceremony and will pay to make it happen, an amount expected to be in the millions.
Kanye West is widely known as someone who loves, to put lightly, being in the spotlight, and he is seen as a perfect match for Kardashian. The two had a daughter, controversially named North West, in June last year. Five months later, in October 2013, West proposed to Kardashian in San Francisco on the stadium screen at AT&T Park for all her friends and family to see.
With best man rejection, Kanye West and Jay Z remain best friends and most importantly, they still have a tight business partnership. Announced earlier this week on Monday on Roc nation’s website, DONDA, the creative house of West partnered with Roc Nation to manage all DONDA music. The deal was done so as to help West improve his recording brand internationally and to assist with touring worldwide.
