Often we hear stories about hip-hops fallen legends 2 Pac & The Notorious BIG from those who in good taste have an interest in keeping the legacy alive. Even the not so good stories we have heard about the “Bad Boy’ haven’t hurt the image because we knew he was a player and we loved him for it. So it is rare to get a story like the one that has been circulating about past tension between BIG and E-40. First alluded to in the 2007 documentary “Bigger Than Life” by The Notorious ones former manager, Larry Burns, says that E-40 set up a fake concert to lure the east coast rapper to the west side because of comments Big made about E-40’s music or lack there of.

The rumors have been flying until recently 40 decided to speak candidly about the situation and put the rumors to bed. Not willing to throw dirt on the dead he first states about the altercation “Man I’m so real that I never spoke on it. His folks brought that up.”

He also goes on to state

“It was just unfortunate – [B.I.G.] was out there in the Bay, and my folks got on his helmet – I got on the phone and he pow-wowed with me. I will say this – I didn’t set that up…I didn’t even know that he was out there to be honest with you. My folks just out there, they reacted.” So what was it that this whole thing sparked from? In 1995 a Canadian magazine ironically called “Peace” interviewed the B.I.G. and had him to rate rappers on a scale of 1 -10.

In the interview when asked about “40 Fonzarelli” the then new albulm from E-40 here is what Big had to say, “No rating! Zero! I don’t fuck with duke at all. At all.” When asked about it on The Breakfast Club morning show on pwer 105.1 40 says ” a 0 bruh” as he chuckles. He continues and says “if the tables were turned I wouldn’t give him a 0 even if I didn’t like him.” He also states that up until this point the two had never met.

40 Continues the story stating he was home and received a call saying “40 i got this nigga biggie down here…what you want me to do.” Biggie finds himself cornered on the west coast in the Bay area at a show 40 says he had nothing to do with stating “I didn’t book that show on everything I love…I didn’t book it and I didn’t send no money to nobody to book it…I didn’t know about it.” 40 says the whole thing was squashed over the phone as he quelled the situation and Big recanted the statements saying he was drunk and just saying anything. In a fashion we all wish was adopted at the time 40 says in this interview “I wouldn’t want nothing to happen to somebody just for saying somebody on a scale of 1-10 is a zero. It was an insult but not to you know die! or nothing like that.” The two legends met again in Las Vegas and spoke and things were officially squashed there was even talks of E-40 being on the life after death album. All in all we only wished that everyone was able to see this as just music like 40 did in this situation because not too long after as we all know we lst two legends over this…Music! R.I.P. to all of those we lost and let us remember this is just music.
