Cash Money Records had one of the hottest rap groups that sold over 2 millions albums worldwide, with hit singles like “We On Fire” and “I Need a Hot Girl“. Former Hot Boy member, Turk, spent nine years incarcerated after his 2004 arrest for shooting a Memphis,Tennessee, SWAT team member, which put a complete halt on his career. During the time he spent in jail, the group dismantled and his former group mate, LiL Wayne, who he considered more like his “brother” became big as ever, reaching international pop status. Lil Wayne has sold over 10 million albums, Grammy Award Winner, graced the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine and was featured in numerous of movies including Hurricane Season, based on a true story of his hometown of New Orleans, John Ehret High School 2005-2006 Championship basketball team.
After Turk current release from prison, he has released a steady flow of music, and in recent interviews, spoke on the distance between him and Wayne, but insist their relationship is still secure.
“Me and Wayne, we good. That’s like my little brother but we grew apart. I got my own movement, I just was locked up. If I’d a been out, it would have been the same results, you know what I’m saying? I’ve kind of been dazzing because I was wilding for real. I think my thing’s gonna go farther. I got people that can relate to me and I can relate to. I’m not Michael Jackson, I’m not weird –some of these dudes out here, you can’t even touch ’em, you can’t even talk to ’em.” (G14 Radio “The Cut”)
He also spoke on Lil Wayne alleged addictions, and his own past addiction and trouble with cocaine
and heroin.
“I used to be in a circle where I was caught up with some drugs. I used to do heroin and cocaine, I used to shoot heroin and cocaine like an old nigga,” Turk added. “When I was 15, 16 years-old, couldn’t nobody tell me nothing. The only thing I can say on that situation is when you under the influence of anything that’s altering your mind, anything out loud will come out your mouth. It’s those drugs that’s overpowering you, it’s those spirits overpowering you. Wayne like a little
brother to me and I know that’s not Wayne. When I see certain pictures of him, I know that’s not Wayne. When I see Wayne, I see the Lil Wayne when we used to be in the Holiday Inn doing things together, battling in the studio — that’s the Wayne I see. … I’d rather not talk about the Wayne that’s happening today because I don’t know that Wayne. I can’t speak on that Wayne. I was gone the whole time.” (G14 Radio “The Cut”)
When asked in an interview with XXL Magazine about rejoining the Cash Money, Turk stated “I’m always open to that. That’s an option. I’ve talked to Baby on several occasions, while I was incarcerated. I’ve talked to Lil Wayne. Wayne sent me money. I talked to B.G., but unfortunately he was locked up when I came out. I spoke to Juve, Mannie Fresh, everybody. It’s all love. We’re gonna sit down, chop it up as men and see what the future got for us. But right now, it’s about that YNT Empire–Young N Thuggin. I’m pushing on my own right now because a man gotta stand on his own, but I’m looking forward to working with the whole industry. It’s all love.”
With success comes change and growth. The questions is “Did Lil Wayne change for the better?”
